indiepics Goes International – Key Hire

Eoin O Shea Headshots by Sally MacMonagle

While our programmes have sold across the globe we are now setting out to sell our ideas and production expertise all over the world. And we think we’ve found the right person to do that.

Former London based Showrunner, Eoin O’Shea, is joining us as Head of International. After an early career working in-house at Irish national broadcaster RTE, Eoin spent 15 years in London and Bristol working with some of the UK’s biggest, independent, unscripted producers including: Century Films; Arrow Media; Windfall Films; Raw TV; Blast TV and Icon Films.

Initially making his name with Archie Films as the producer and director of BBC 2’s award winning history series, Britain’s Flying Past and the access- doc series Red Arrows – Inside The Bubble, Eoin went on to produce Channel 4 series Flying To The Ends Of The Earth, Hidden Britain By Drone and Escape To Costa Rica.

Eoin then developed and directed several specialist factual and access-led observational doc series for US networks, including Terror In The Skies for Smithsonian; Unseen Rivers with Jeremy Wade for National Geographic/Disney; Border Rico for US Travel Channel and Wild World With Patrick Aryee for Love Nature.

Eoin returned home to Ireland in 2020, commuting internationally while showrunning the six-part adventure series Lost Cities with Albert Lin for National Geographic/Disney, recently shortlisted for a US Critics’ Choice Award.

“The best opportunities often come out of the blue. I’ve always wanted to come home and make films in Ireland. And the offer to build something with Conor and the Indiepics team was too good to pass up.

I want to build a new, world-class, unscripted producer in Ireland. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of the best doc and factual producers in the world. And I hope a little bit of their magic has rubbed off. The rest is just imagination and hard graft.

Ireland is bursting out of its skin with amazing stories, epic landscapes and world-class storytellers. It’s the perfect place for making films and television. indiepics have been doing it domestically for 40 plus years. Drama has already proved it can be done on an international level. And there are great strides being made in studio based shows for the international market – why not unscripted factual and factual entertainment?

There is no reason Ireland can’t be a significant player in this market. The opposite, in fact.”
